Yesterday, the producers of Salt Lake’s ever-growing, outrageously-popular, star-studded comic con had a press conference, to kickstart the Sept 4-6 event at the Salt Palace Convention Center; naming the first celebrity guests, expounding on new events and expansions that are being implemented, and setting up shop with lower-priced ticket sales . It was held at The Leonardo and it was attended by media outlets, fans, cosplayers and geeks (like me) from all over. Dan Farr, Bryan Brandenburg and a host of others involved, have high hopes that we (the “nerdiest state in the nation”) will make this comic con the biggest yet.
Some of the first-guests named for Salt Lake Comic Con 2014, yesterday, include Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead), Christopher Lloyd (Star Trek III, Dennis The Menace, Back To The Future), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Robin Hood: Men In Tights), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters, The Crow),
Sam Witwer (ScyFy’s Battlestar Galactica, Being Human and John Barrowman (Doctor Who, Torchwood). You know we’ll be seeing dozens of names added to the lineup, as September draws closer. The success of the previous cons gives us leverage to bring in some of the top names in showbiz, as-well-as, more comic book creators, writers and artists, and hundreds of vendors and displays.
Also-touted, at the press conference, was the expansion of Kid Con (which was very popular, as I knew it would be), more top-tier comic creators in Artist Alley, (which, I hope is relocated to the front line, and please give these people more room to work), that will rival San Diego and New York, more cosplay events and participation, expansion of the film festival, and a Video Games Live Night with the Utah Symphony Orchestra which is sure to be a phenomenal event.
This is what got my attention: Buy now, get great early-bird incentive pricing… From Kenny Caldwell’s press release email: “Ticket pricing has been enhanced and will start at a lower price as a bonus for early supporters. For example, ticket prices for a 3-day Multipass will start at $30.00 and will increase between now and the event with a final price of $60 if purchased during the event.
“Our fans are so supportive and passionate about Comic Con that we wanted to reward them for buying early,” said Dan Farr, Salt Lake Comic Con Founder and Show Producer. “The continued fan support of these events allows us to expand Salt Lake Comic Con, already the largest convention in the state, and continue to attract the best celebrities, comic creators and vendors to come to Utah. Our conventions are so good they are now attracting fans from all over the world.”
Let’s all make this the best comic con on The Third Rock From the Sun, eh… This is sure to be the best one yet, and I’m excited to be a part of it! So, go! What are you waiting for?! Get your VIP and Multipasses here!
‘Til-Sept… I’ll see ya ‘out there’…
